Is Goat Milk Good in Soap?

You might wonder why we have chosen to capitalize on including goat milk in our natural handcrafted soap bars. Does it really make that much difference in the final bars of soap? Does it merely make our soap “sound special” or does it contribute to the goodness of our soap? Let me let you in on a little secret: we use goat milk as a main component in our soaps because it makes soap that is great for our skin! Our goal is to create all-natural soap that is mild, gentle, soothing to all skin types and pure enough that it could be eaten! Goat milk contributes a host of valuable, natural skin-care properties that help our soaps to be just that! And why? Why is goat milk soap so good?

Raw, whole goat milk is a virtual storehouse of nutrients that enrich and pamper all skin types! Goat milk is rejuvenating, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing. It contains over fifty nutrients including the vitamins A, B1, B2 (riboflavin), B6, B12, C, D, E, and K, niacin, zinc, and calcium, as well as minerals, amino acids, citric acid, unsaturated fatty acid, proteins, various enzymes and many other nutrients. Many of these components of goat milk play an important part in skin-care, working in our soap to gently clean your skin without stripping and drying it, moisturizing your skin, smoothing and plumping your skin, and soothing sensitive and allergenic skin conditions. It’s true; we think goat milk soap is THE BEST kind of soap we can use, and that’s why we use goat milk in our soap!

Making Gift Baskets, Soap, and Lip Balm for the Coming Shows!

It has been quite busy these past weeks as we cleaned out the gardens, split and stacked wood, replaced old window’s with new, cleaned out the barn, etc., etc.

Here are a few pictures from a couple of the above events:

We have also been busy making soap for the coming shows. I made gift baskets today and will be making more soon, Pamela made some vanilla lip balm, and then we made several batches of soap to keep ahead of the high demand of customers from all over!

The Vanilla lip balm is NEW! It has the same ingredients as the peppermint lip balm, just the new vanilla essential oil.

This weekend Garland Goat Soap will be at two different shows – the first is the Middlebury Winter Market at Flat Bread in the Marbleworks in Middlebury, VT and the Rutland Holiday Show at the Holiday Inn in Rutland, VT.
We are very excited about both and hope to see many of our current soap users and to meet many new people.

New Soap Curing Rack

We have had several orders over the last month, and are making a lot of soap to fill inventory for the Holiday and Christmas Fairs. So we had to make a new soap-curing rack to be able to keep the Goat Milk Soap moving through the process. It was a lot of fun building the rack, because first I had to mill, plane, and cut everything to size. I had stacks of pieces for different parts of the rack all in order so I could put them together faster. Dad built the main part of the rack, and I put the shelves together.

Nailing the netting to the frames. It looks like an uncomfortable way of doing it, but I needed a solid place to nail, and the slate floor under the rug was the easiest.

It took a few days to build but was well worth the work. It is now almost full of soap and will be used all year round. We also put a top on it for storing all the molds, because we have over 1200 molds and over 27 designs!

We are still making all-natural goat milk soap in quality-controlled batches just as Arielle (previous owner) used to do.

North Easton Sheep Festival and Craft Fair

We were driving down a fairly busy Route 2 in Massachusetts on Saturday evening, with a light drizzle coming down outside, just before dusk. Turning on the windshield wipers to clear the water that had accumulated, produced no fruit. Hmm, that’s strange. We tried the headlights, nothing. Blinker? Nothing! Things were starting to dim on the dashboard, and we were loosing some power. Pulling quickly off to the side of the road, and not being able to let others know we were turning, was a little interesting. But we made it safely, and turned the engine off. Waiting a few seconds, we tried restarting it. Click. Click. Click. No battery left. We sat there several minutes, made some calls, did some calculating on the GPS, and thought about our next step. AAA was soon on its way. Eventually the van started and we were able to get off exit 16 and into a parking lot, just before it died, again. It was soon loaded up on the tow truck, and heading to some friends house in New Hampshire for the night. The van was full of all our display items and most importantly, our goat milk soap, all ready for the craft fair!

Early Sunday morning, we made some more calls, but nothing was open to rent a car. Almost three hours from the show, and no way to get there, reluctantly, we had to cancel. Mom came and picked us up, and we are now back home planning for this weekends shows. We will be in Belmont, Springfield, and Brandon, VT. on Saturday the 8th of October.

Alton Bay Craft Fair on Lake Winnipesaukee

The first weekend of September found us in Alton Bay, NH, right on Lake Winnipesaukee. It was a beautiful warm Labor Day weekend, and there were lots of people out shopping, before they had to head back to their homes and jobs. The craft show lasted three lovely days, and there was no rain, until the last day just before the show closed. We met a few repeat customers that have bought soap from us at other shows, some that had heard we were going to be there on the Craft Fair Website, some that have never heard of Goats Milk Soap and some that love it! We had a wonderful weekend and were able to tell those that had not heard about Goats Milk Soap how good, creamy, smooth and healing it is for their skin.

With all the flooding in Vermont from Hurricane Irene, the normal 3 hour route took us nearly 5 hours. But since then, more roads have opened and many more are due to open soon. Our next show coming up is in Poultney, VT. Come visit us at the Fall craft Extravaganza!

Cleaning with Garland Goat Soap

It was a lovely warm day here in Vermont, and perfect for cleaning some very valuable and necessary “things” for the business! So here is where we find Emily, the main care taker of the goats.

Emily is very faithful with keeping up with things like this! She loves caring for the goats and it is wonderful to have clean goats!

The soap works really well on animals! The oils and the other enriching ingredients in the soap make them smell wonderful and have smooth, shiny coats.

About seven weeks ago the big mess began!!

It has been a little challenging to make meals or soap lately, especially with the hot weather. Everyone is working hard to get cabinets made and much more. Dad is working on the lighting and some pluming! It sure is a hot job.

A Week at the Fair

What a wonderful week we had at Addison County Fair and Field Days! We met some happy soap users who buy our soap at Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op and and Rutland Co-op. It was fun to meet them and hear how they love our soap. Sales were great and we look forward to supplying soap for new customers.

We also spent the day yesterday at Springfield’s 250th celebration. The townsfolk put a lot into planning the busy day and the weather turned out beautiful. We will be returning to Springfield, Vermont Columbus Day weekend for their Apple Fest and again in December for the Unicorn Fair.

Our autumn schedule is busy, so I will post our itinerary soon.

Garland Goat Soap at Addison County Fair and Field Days!!

For many months and weeks now, we have been planning to have a booth at the Addison County Fair and Field Days in New Haven Vermont! Well, the time has finally come and yesterday was our first day! We made many sales and met many people! It was a great start for the week and are now in the middle of our second day! Our booth runs from 10am to 10 pm and even though it is a long day, we take two to three shifts, depending on the availability of different family members! We would love to have you come and see us at the fair. We are located in the big red Paquette Building.

Lavender Essential Oil in Soap!

Everyone knows that lavender essential oil has a lovely scent and is very soothing and calming. What you may not know, however, is that it also helps numerous ailments. Lavender essential oil can help relax tense nerves, calm anxiety, depression, and nervous exhaustion.
